About the Role
Young Voices is seeking a Media Relations Manager to serve as the organization’s primary connector between our contributors and the media world. This role is the pitching and booking engine for Young Voices programs, including The Dissident Project and the Contributor Program. The ideal candidate will be able to execute a high-impact, relationship-driven strategy across broadcast television, podcast, print, and digital publications, and represent Young Voices in person at media events and gatherings.
The ideal candidate will be able to build on genuine relationships with producers, hosts, and editors to create viable media opportunities for YV staff and program participants. They know the media landscape, they can work a room well, and they’re good at getting on a first-name basis with editors and producers.
The Media Relations Manager reports to the Director of Programs. This is a full-time, in-person position based in New York, NY (preferred) or Washington, DC.
Key Responsibilities
Television Pitching
- Build and maintain personal relationships with producers and bookers at top-tier television outlets, including Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, and others.
- Monitor the news cycle daily to identify timely pitching opportunities for contributors across the YV roster.
- Pitch contributors to specific shows and producers with tailored, relationship-driven outreach.
- Track media relationships in HubSpot and log broadcast appearances in YV’s in-house database.
Podcast Pitching
- Identify and cultivate relationships with high-quality podcast hosts and producers whose audiences align with Young Voices’ mission.
- Pitch contributors to podcasts with engaged, intellectually curious audiences — prioritizing quality of listenership over raw download numbers.
- Develop a working pipeline of podcast opportunities across ideological and topical verticals.
Editorial & Print Relations
- Help Young Voices’ editorial staff by forging relationships with editors at magazines, newspapers, and digital publications in New York and Washington, DC.
- Make introductions between YV’s Editor and contacts at outlets interested in publishing contributors’ written work — opening doors that the editorial team can then walk through.
- Identify new print and digital outlets aligned with Young Voices’ mission and connect the right talent on our roster to the right editors.
Media Relations & Events
- Represent Young Voices at media events, salon dinners, and meet-the-press gatherings in New York and Washington, DC.
- Serve as boots-on-the-ground support for events planned by senior staff, including logistics coordination and guest relations.
- Cultivate a personal network of media contacts that generates inbound opportunities for Young Voices contributors over time.
- Assist in identifying and developing new event formats that advance Young Voices’ visibility in key media markets.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in media, public relations, talent booking, or a related field — whether through internships, early-career roles, or demonstrable personal hustle.
- Existing relationships with or genuine knowledge of the media landscape, including broadcast, podcast, print and digital publications.
- Ability to travel, up to 25%. DC-based candidates will have increased travel.
- Exceptional interpersonal and networking skills; comfortable representing an organization in high-profile social and professional settings.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling, concise pitches.
- Highly self-directed and capable of managing a multi-track pipeline with minimal oversight.
- Familiarity with HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar CRM tools preferred.
- Deep alignment with Young Voices’ pro-liberty mission.
