Bautista Vivanco

Research Associate

Cato Institute

Bautista Vivanco was born and raised in Argentina, where he witnessed firsthand the impact of the high taxes and regulations imposed on his family’s cattle farm. Through a combination of academic and athletic scholarships, he was able to pursue his higher education in the US. Whether inside or outside the classroom, his time as an undergrad was marked by his campus involvement and academic accolades. In his senior year, Bautista was selected as one of only 10 students from across the globe to attend the Nobel Week Dialogues in Stockholm as part of an internationally competitive scholarship program: The Future Nobel Laureates Scholarship. Emboldened by this remarkable experience, he moved towards the non-profit sector, seeing it as an effective means to promote freedom and social flourishing. After Graduating with honors in Economics and Political Science at Winthrop University, he began his next steps at The Mercatus Center at George Mason. From there he moved to Cato where he has been working for Michael Cannon, helping bring change and understanding to our convoluted and efficient healthcare markets. Bautista is eager to share his insights and beliefs, hoping to help shape public discourse towards individual liberty and away from an overburdening government.
